About Margot Lasher

I am a writer and psychologist who studies the connection between humans and their animal companions.

I specialize in relational theory, based upon the work of Jean Baker Miller, Daniel Stern, Stephen Mitchell and other psychologists and psychiatrists. Some years ago, while I was teaching at Assumption College, it occurred to me that one of my most important relationships was with my dog, Hogahn. But psychologists were not talking about human-dog relationships, at least not in ways that made sense to me. I wrote And the Animals Will Teach You mainly because of my experience with Hogahn.

When I was younger I was involved in theatre, as an actor and a writer. I recently completed a play, Other Minds, which is a conversation between a human and a dog. I hope to write more for the theatre.

My dog, Shiro, and I hunt in the woods of northern Vermont now. Shiro finds wild animals and I try to capture, with my camera, different ways that Shiro connects to other animals.
